We provide counselling for people on low income, and operate a sliding scale of costs. This means our average client pays just £3 a session, when the actual cost is £55.
Tower Hamlets has many of the risk factors for poor mental health and yet many of the residents don’t have the means to pay for private counselling. Due to the current financial situation, these factors, such as poverty and unemployment have increased. As the only provider of low-cost, long-term counselling in Tower Hamlets, our waiting lists are often full. In addition, other non- private counselling providers are closing due to lack of funding, leading to greater demand for our services.
We have a reputation as a valuable, professional service, who have been in operation since 1994, and are recommended to most of our clients by GPs or other professionals. Despite this, we receive no statutory income at all, so are entirely relient on donations and grants to continue to provide our life transforming service.
Most of our clients can only afford to pay us £3 for a session, but it costs us £55 to provide one!
We fund our service through grant income and individual supporters. An amazing one third of our income comes from people who give monthly to our service. Although your contribution may seem small to you, every penny adds up. Most importantly, giving in this way enables us to know what income we will have and plan ahead.
The work we do is only made possible through the generosity of our funders and supporters - see our annual report for more details.
